Chromat A/W13: SUPERSTRUCTURES

The Autumn/Winter 2013 Chromat Superstructures collection was inspired by parametric design and three-dimensional translations of mathematical equations such as hyperboloid structures. 

Chromat also studied the work of sixties futurist architects: Superstudio’s monolithic grid structures and Archigram’s dystopian visions for future cities.

chromat spring/summer 2013 collection: riot box.

we are thrilled to present the new chromat spring/summer 2013 riot box collection! comprised of 10 swimwear looks and 10 leather looks- the pieces were inspired by strong, fearless women and feminist punks like joan jett, pussy riot and the guerrilla girls.

this is the first time chromat has delved into leather- with exciting results! patent leather bustiers, smooth vegetable-leather riveted bras and perforated leather hot pants, as well as leather cages, bring the chromat structural foundations to a strong, luxurious new place.

do ho suh

i've been in love with the work of artist do ho suh for forever. when i moved into my first apartment in lynchburg, va in 2007, i spent the first 3 months sewing 5" thick walls with real crown molding, chair rails, toe kicks, jamb details and picture frames in homage to do ho suh's sewn apartments.

so it was an incredible experience to be able to see his work in person for the first time at the lehmann maupin gallery in chelsea a few weeks ago. the architect inside me geeked out at the detail of his constructions and i was in complete awe of the hand sewing that went into his work. he has built entire houses, even the tiniest tiny details- like the lettering on the electric shock labels that come on the cords of lamps- out of fabric and thread. its an impressive feat of craftsmanship.

hello chromat lovers! its getting dark early here in new york; there was a crazy snowstorm the other weekend and yesterday i biked into the city wearing just t-shirt (well, and pants). i'm guessing this is fall?

in which case, i figured i should do a little recap with some highlights of what chromat has been getting into while the leaves have been working on their new color schemes.

the cages stocked at patricia field's store on the bowery flew off the shelves this october, necessitating a quick re-stock so all the club kids, drag queens and divas could be ready for halloween. here's a reporter from the new york times workin some white chromat crane shoulders with patricia fields in a video the new york times style section did in anticipation of halloween 2k11!
